“Social cognition and skills development in children with autism spectrum disorders.”
Colleen uses a cognitive behavioral approach when working with children and their families holding the belief that when there is a disruption in functioning, treatment should be brief, efficient, and problem focused so that children are able to continue with the developmental tasks. For children with developmental challenges or on-going mental health issues, therapy may be a part of a comprehensive treatment. “Working with children and their families is a great privilege, and along with this comes a sincere respect, appreciation and commitment to the families who entrust their children in my care.”
Bio: Colleen Hanson, MSW, LCSW
Colleen earned her Bachelor Degree in Psychology from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN and a Master Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified School Social Worker. She has over 13 years of experience working in public schools, therapeutic day school and private practice. She works with children, adolescents and their families and has a special interest in anxiety and mood disorders, and social-emotional functioning of children, adolescents and young adults with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and other social cognitive challenges.
Recent post graduate training includes completion of the Multi-Disciplinary Certificate Program in Child and Adolescent Mental Health 2006, and Think Social Publishing, Mentor Training Program, San Jose, California, October 2009. Current training, Cognitve-Behavioral Therapy with Children, Adolescents and Families, Professional Development Training Program, Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital, eligible for certification with the Academy of Cognitive Therapists, August 2010
